Default 4 to 5 lug conversion?

I've got a 68 with the straigh six 200. I'm looking at buying rims but the only rims I like seem to be only for cars with 5 lugs. Is there any way to convert a 4 lug car to a 5 lug car? And can it be done for less than the rims would cost? If not, anyone know of a site with rims for cars for 4 lugs? I'm new to this whole rim buying thing so I don't know very much. As much info as possible would be great.

Converting to 5 lugs is done all the time. Although it's usually as part of an I6 tp V8 engine swap. If you're only doing it for rims, you'll probably decide it's too costly. (You pretty much need a whole doner V8 parts car to pull everything off of.) There are 4 lug rims out there; they're just not very easy to find. And spoked styles (by that I mean like the Magnum 500 for example) will only have 4 spokes instead of 5. Sometimes looks kinda funky that way.

If I had a 6 cylinder, I think I'd invest in a good set of whitewalls and run the factory wheel covers. Stock Mustangs look just as good!

To convert the rear end to 5-lugs you need to replace the 4-lug axles and drums with 5-lug units.

For the front you will need one each left and right side spindles, hubs, rotors and calipers.

Now, are you REALLY sure you want 5 bolt's, or will the 4 do for your 6 cylinder car? Like Dan said, the classic look of white sidewall tires and original hub caps looks really good. Think about it.

White walls are hideous. My car is a 68, it's more agressive, white walls would be an insult to my baby. Not to mention I'm tired of replacing lost hub caps only to get them all dinged up and lost again... What about sites with 4 lug rims? Know of any sites that has more than two that will fit my car?

Hideous? They seem to agree with my car just fine.
I realize of course though, that a '66 GT fastback isn't supposed to be quite as agressive as a 6 cylinder hardtop. [:'(]

You guys be nice now. Get off the aggressive attack about whether or not white sidewalls are hideous or not. Your 68 came with whitewalls and hub caps. It is a 6 cylinder car that deserves to be treated like a 68 6 cylinder car. If you want to make it more aggressive, then start with an 8 cylinder upgrade. Wheels and hubcaps don't mean a thing regarding aggressiveness.

Gee, Glen... We wuz just funnin' and stuff... Golly... *kicks dust and walks away with hands in pockets*

Seriously though - whitewalls are not bad-looking at all. Still don't like 'em? How about redwalls? They came as factory high-performance equipment on 65/66 K-code cars - and they're being reproduced.

But if you just can't bring yourself to look that stock, there is an alternative. There was a 14" wheel cover that Ford offered from '65 to '68. You may have seen the 15" version on 1968 Shelbys. I believe they simply called it the "Mag Wheel Cover." I have one that I "liberated" from a ditch in East Texas. They look in place with whitewalls or without.

Here's a shot of it before I cleaned and restored it:

That's probably a keeper for a museum piece of history of the Mustang, but without 4 of them, it is worthless. My understanding is that he wants modern wheels to replace the steel wheels that came with his car from the factory. As you know, I am not an advocate of reproduction parts just to make a car look better before all the upgrades of suspension and brakes are done first. Yes, I have Mag 500's on my 65. I like them, and that is the reason I bought them, but after the upgrades were installed, and not before. Looks takes a second seat to performance and safety.

Not necessarily...

OK, so you can make four wheels/hubcaps out of one with your graphic designs. Let's get together, and show me that process. We could make millions.
