Axle install question
Yesterday Ihad my bearings pressed ontothe axles, so today it is time to get stuff installed. One problem though...my bearing are sticking out of the housing ends about 1/8"-3/16". I think I remember reading about this some time back, but can't remember the problem...
The bearings seem to seatproperly in the housing, I can feel them hit the stopping point. Everything turns fine and whatnot. However, even if they are supposed to stick out alittle, how am I supposed to make the bearing retainer plates lay flat? If I tighten up the bolts, it would "cup" that plate. The retainer gaskets would be useless..
Thanks!

That gap is normally taken up by the drum brake backing plate. Drum brake backing plate, then the axle retainer plate. If you switched to rear disc brakes, you should have a spacer ring to take up that gap.
