Default Roof Swap

What is the thoughts on a roof swap. I am aware of the fact that the VIN can not be changed, however, it sure does seem like a more cose effective way to restore an old fastback and use ford parts. Personally I have not done one, nor do I intend on doing one, but have a buddy up North that sells roofs to a company out east. I do not know what they do with the title, I never asked. At this point I am OK with a swap, as long as everything id disclosed if it ever sold....the coupe title should give most of it away.

it can be done but it is alot of work. You might be better off selling your coupe and using the money to buy a fast back.

sometimes you can get lucky and find one for a decent price. You might have to find one that needs some work. Have you tried to figure out how much it would cost to swap roofs over to make a fast back? I'm sure there is some other interior mods that you would have to make but I dont know anything about fast backs.

Unless you can do all the work it is cheaper to buy a fastback.Your rebuilding half a car all the hours it would take to do right you could easly spend 6k for all the parts and labor to have it done.In the end its just a coupe you won't get your money back on.

I was thinking 6k for a rust free fastback is cheap. I know its only a coupe, but if it was for me who cares.

Cheaper to just buy a fastback, The swap is hard from what I hear and doesn't always turn out right..

Keep your coupe it will grow on you and you will begin to like it more than a fastback..

It is.

The only way I'd consider doing a Coupe to FB roof swap was if both vehicles were parked side by side.

The actual roof and sail panels are the easier part of the job. The more difficult portion is all of the FB specific interior bracketry. In order to do it right, you'd almost have to assemble the rear interior pieces in order to figure out exactly where all of the support brackets need to be installed/welded in.

If you have a rust-free Coupe and have access to a rusted out FB (sans roof), the swap is do-able. It's just a LOT of work.

you can still find fast backs i found the red on in a field.
with a parts coupe that is not rusted out in a barn.
Go figure why the put the coupe inside and the fastback out.
