Default Removing front Seats

Hey guys I am now doing a frame uprestoration on my 66 hardtop because I just had a fire in my garage and my baby got torched Iam pulling out the interior and I need to know how to get the front seats out because I can't find the bolts for the seat track. are they in the cab or under the car? also what it the best way to get the gear shifter off for an automatic so I can take out the center console. Thanks

They are accessed from the bottom of the car. Jack it up a bit and look under. You'll see 4 holes under the floors on each side. Up there are the bolts holding the rails on.

Use a long deep socket.Be really careful removing them -If it falls out of the socket it may get lost in the pans of the car. When putting them back in tape them lightly in place on the socket...what I am getting at is you dont want to drop them when removing them...they are hard to find/get out if you drop the bolt. Scott

There is a set screw that takes a small Allen wrench on the back of the shifter T Handle. Remove the set screw and gently turn the handle side to side and pull it up. The black button you depress to shift gears will now be a loose piece that comes out of the handle.

Be careful pulling the center console. There is a bracket at the front under the console at the front under the dash. The manual says lift the rear of the console and it comes right off the bracket. They lied. I cracked mine trying to get it out. Also be careful with the wires for the storage box (if you don't have A/C), the shifter light, and the light at the back by the ashtray.

Based on these two questions you should get online right now and order a paperback shop manual. It is more than the C/D but easier to use (I have both). It will be invaluable to you and proably the best return on investment you will get on your car.

Yup. I usually duct tape the socket to the extension so it won't end up rattling around in my floor too. Anything that comes off is a PITA to get back out of there especially if it's a vert.
