Default engine identification

How do you tell if the inline six in a 65 is a 170 or a 200? Is there a # somewhere or some thing to look for? Also how can you tell a 64 from a 65, or is the title the only way to be sure???

Default RE: engine identification

The title is no way to tell for sure, as the motor could have been changed.
If the 5th "number" of the vin has a T is was a 200, if it had a U it was a 170.
If the motor still has the tag on it, it will have the CID on it.

Check also www.fordsix.com

If you want to know if the car was a 64 or 65 the door tag will help, the date code will tell you. Also the general parts on the car were different for early or late models.
