Default electric fuel pump and overheating

For some reason the search funtion doesn't seem to be working so I'll post...... I remember reading some posts on electrical fuel pumps and wanted to know what folks are using. I bought a Frontrunner serpentine system which doesn't have the hole for the mechanical fuel pump and therefore I have to go electical. I ordered a Holley Blue electric fuel pump but I have 2 huge problems - it is noisy as hell and it was starting to make some funny noises and now it isn't working at all. I am going to check the ground (also, I just connected a ground from the engine to the body - ran 10 gauge wire from the firewall to the carb mounting stud where my choke is grounded).

2 things - what is everyone using (hopefully something that isn't louder than the stereo) and could low pressure cause the car to overheat? Even though it looks like my float bowls are fine when idling, the car will start to overheat after driving it for a few miles - gradually starves the carb. Even now when the fuel pump doesn't come on, the car will start and run fine at idle - assuming there is enough pressure in the line to keep the siphon going.

Having a real **** trying to get the fuel and overheating problem sorted. Any thoughts would be well appreciated, thanks.

Well I don't have one, but from what I hear they are all noisy as hell. The only way for it to not be noisy is if it could somehow be mounted in the tank (don't think thats possible)
Don't hold me to any of this though as I am not SURE. I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong..

yeah the elec pumps are noisy, but you will get used to it. im not sure about the overheating though. but, doesnt the blue push about 12 psi or something like that? if so then you would need a regulator,

im using the red holley pump by the way

this probably didnt help but i figured id put in my .02[8D]

I just got back from checking and I have 12 volts to the fuse panel. I went back to take a look at the fuel pump and it was hot as heck - I had the key on for about 5 minutes listening to the radio and checking a few other things. I am wondering -do I have a ground problem if the starter is heating up or is this an internal pump issue?

I spoke with a mechanic and he said the Mallory pumps are much quieter than Holley

Mallory pumps are a differnet type of pump. Your pump is probably shorting out or you can take it apart to see if anything clogged it or got in the gears. My worked forlong time, but only sprung a leak.

Electric pumps use fuel to cool themselves. If you don't have fuel flowing, it's going to get pretty damn hot. This is why modern cars shut the fuel pump off after about 5 seconds of KOEO (key on engine off).

I got the Edelbrock quiet flo in today and it is definitely quieter than the Holley that I had in before - sounds more like a new car fuel pump. Gauge was dead on 6psi and looking good. With the car running, I can't hear the pump....right answer

no, that is incorect. The fuel pump turns on to prime the engine since after the car sits it bleeds off presure. The pumps are submersible and build pressure to about 38-40 psi for easier starting.
