Default 67 restoration need help!!

I am just starting to restore my 67 mustang and need help!!!! The first thing I want to do is change my 6 cylinder to a 289. In reading some of the posts it seems like along with a motor you can also get an ac and power steering. Need some advice on how to proceed and what key things I need to know and or questions I need to ask my mechanic. Also I currently have a stick shift should I change it out for an automatic?

If you change from a 6cyl to a v8 you will need to change the majority of your suspension over to a v8 also to handle the added weight.

Do you think it is worth it? I don't necessarily want to have the fastest car but what I do love is to hear that pur of the engine when you start it which someone told me you can get just by adding flowmaster??? Please work with me if I am totally off here!

I don't have the $$ or knowledge to swap my I6 for a V8. I also wanted a nicer sound and look though. I added Clifford Headers (www.cliffordperformance.net), a X Pipe, and dual exhaust. I told the muffler shop I wanted it loud enough to **** off my crazy neighbor but not so loud it would wake everyone up.

It's still not a V8 but it sounds good, the dual out the back looks good, and it did add a little power.

That's not an entirely true statement. The front will sit a little lower but some people actually like this stance over stock anyhow. In my experience, I didn't experience any rubbing and only recentlyput new coils on. Everything (except for the 9" brakes) are the same between 6 and 8 cylinder front end on the 67. Including the spindles. Other years are not as lucky.

I'm not entirely sure that my front wasn't sagging just due to the coils being original (40+ years old). Some mustang vendors don't even differentiate between 6 & 8 coils. So I can't really confirm or deny there is a difference between the models.

All I can say is take your time and research THOROUGHLY before starting a conversion. It is a hotly debated topic as whether or nota conversionis worth it.

I will be the first to admit that it took much longer (and much more money) than I anticipated. However I am very happy with the final product.

Good luck with your decision.
