i was going to buy brand new black bullitts from americanmuscle.com

they are stock for 01-04 new edges, and i heard those wheels need the 1 inch spacer.

http://www.americanmuscle.com/17x8-bullitt-black.html

can i fit a 17x9 in the back? or is this out of the question.

For 01-04 wheels, the one inch spacers should do and yes that will fit in the back. For new 05-current wheels, it requires 1.5 inch spacers. I'm running 05 wheels on my car.
