Will trans hold
Ok well I got the ok from my dad to look for a V8 for the mustang. So far I have found 3 302s, 1 289, and 1 I6 300. How long will my 7.5 rear and my 3 speed tranny last with any of those engines?
The i6 200 was equipped with the 7.5" sp no problems there, but I'd take this time to upgrade to a v8 if your swapping engines anyways. For the 289's and 302's, they would probably hold up if your drove very calmly, but I wouldn't trust it for too long.
I'd consider upgrading your rear to an 8"

I did some crazy stuff to a 7.5 when I was 17, never went. Seemed to be stronger than the 8.Haha
Driving technique will determine that though. The younger you are, the less time you have before it explodes.

I drove a couple years with a crate 302 on my 7.5 inch differential and did not have any problems. The last 6 months I *tried* to break it without any success. TheV8 engine Ihave was spec'd for ~300 ft lbs of torque (280 hp). I've never dyno'd it to confirm, though.
Basically, I found that with an open diff - I couldn't get enough traction to break anything. Also, I have a C4 (which helps relieve drive line stress).
If yours is in good shape, I wouldn't be too concerned. Good luck.
