Gas tank
I just ordered a new gas tank, filler hose, etc for the Stang. Mine is getting a little older and sometimes when you put gas in the car a little leaks out around the seals on the filler neck, etc.
Luckily, the wife didn't have an issue with spending the $119 or so for the kit since this is a safety issue.
Even more lucky is we are moving our office and next Friday the best thing I can do is stay out of the movers' way so I am getting that day off without having to use PTO or a vacation day. Ordered today so should be plenty of time for the parts to get here.
Generally, as I understand it....I jack the car up, pull the drain plug from the old tank and then just unbolt the old tank then install in reverse order.
Just wondering if anyone had done this recently and had any words of wisdom or tricks that might help save some time?
Or anything you ran across that I should watch out for? Nothing like learning from the mistakes of others even though often I learn the hard way via my own mistakes......

Your new tank will arrive un-painted. It will likely have a corrosion prevention compound coating the metal. Remove this coating and give the underside of the tank a couple light coats of flat/semi-gloss black.
Did you order a new float assembly? Now would be the best time to change it out also....
Prior to laying the tank into the trunk, run abead of plumbers pipe dope around the edge of the opening.... and then bolt the tank in.

Thanks for the tip Dave.
I had the thought I may do some sanding and painting on hard to reach areas while I have the tank out, especially if I see any surface type rust which no doubt there will be some.
Any recommendations on a good paint to use for the painting?
I had looked at Bill Hirsch (sp?) products in the past but wondered if something along the lines of Rustoleum wouldn't work just as well?

When you pull the plug, the gas will fall out like there is no tomorrow!!!!! make sure you are prepared for this if you have any gas left in the tank. Take some time and inspect the neck as well. When you buy the new gasket for the neck, look for a rubber one vrs the cork. I find the cork soaks up moisture and rots out fast.
+1 on the float assembly
I used some simple green to wipe off the new tank. You can use brake clean but its a little over kill for the job. Before you paint make sure the tank is 100% dry. You will love the look of a freshly painted tank, it really cleans up the back end.
