Default Electrical Issue

i have a problem with my electrical system again. the problem is this.

my car won't start. so i checked for fire.... no fire. so i went back to the coil to see if i had any volts there... i had volts but only 4volts. so i disconnect it and check the wire going to the coil while it is not connected to the coil and i had 12 volts. but for some odd reason when i connect the coil it drops down to 4 volts instantly. so i decided to test something out and ran a wire from the positive side of the battery (12volts also) and hooked it to the coil and still had 12 volts going into and then i was able to get the car started to run.

ie. i am aware that the coil/distrib/points doesnt supposed to have 12 volts.

what could be my problem. i can not seem to figure this one out.

Default RE: Electrical Issue

Check neutral safety switch, also may be a bad resistor wire. I would start by-passing the neutral switch at the fire wall, please make sure you are in park!
