Default I really am an idiot

Now, if I get a bunch of "+1" below this post agreeing I'm an idiot, I'll be pissed.
It was nice day to do few minor jobs without getting too deep into anything. So, I figured it was time to put the front splash guard on the inside of the fender. The new part had a couple of sticky tags on it so I sprayed them pretty good with WD 40 to loosen them up. Went back about 30 minutes later to scrape them off and discovered I had not used WD 40. I had used 3M Adhesive Spray Mount. Not at all the same thing. So, I spent a while scrubbing them...and then scrubbing them again, and then again. Still have some on there. Well, It's stuck tight and the primer should stick to it. The whole thing gets undercoat spray anyway.

At least it was on the splash guards and not on something that really would have screwed you over.

I usually try to keep WD-40 out of the garage because if you get it on something that you want to paint it leaves you with a pile of fish eyes. I haven't tried to under coat over it so I dont know how that will turn out.

+1

Don't worry, we all do stupid things and most of us will do a few more stupid things. At least it was only the splash guards.

Should have put them in the dishwasher, that would clean them up

I have a differential on jackstands on my work bench. One time I needed to move it back a few inches so I just slided it back. I accidently wedged a can of spray paint remover under it and it started spraying everywhere. Wasnt fun[8D], burnt like hell...

My can of bug and tar remover looks pretty close to my can of Invisible glass. After the second time I sprayed it on the windshiled in a month I put some red tape on the can I feel your pain, but it's not nearly as bad as when I didn't notice the retainer ring on the distributor shaft had let go while I put in the dist and the whole shaft dropped into the oil pan. Didn't notice that one until the oil light came on and the lifters started clackin when I started it. That one turned a new intake into a major operation.

Are you saying that acetone or some other prep soluton will not remove WD-40?
