Default 5 speed

so for the T-5 convertion I need to find a 93 mustang and take the tranny with the bell housing starter and flywheel I will grab the clutch and presure plate as well. What else do I need to take off the car? I asked the local mustang guy here about purchasing a T-5 and he looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my head. Is that the actual name for it or is that a shortend version of what I am looking for? Are the back of the crank shaftes the same for a auto and a manual set up?

If you can find all those parts in good order then yeah get em. If not you can get a good flywheel for about 90 bucks and a 10.5 king cobra clutch for about 140.
your gonna need:
new crank and flywheel bolts
a t5 to 60ies mustang crossmember
block plate
pilot bearings
thowout bearings
that should be most of it assuming you find the rest of the stuff off the car

The T5 is the only thing I have seen it called.

The crank shaft is the same for auto and manual you just need to ram a pilot bearing into the end of it.

I will take the slave cylinder with the tranny and it should have the throw out on it already. But I will buy a new one any ways. I just want the parts for a reference. I just wasn't sure about the crank shaft with reading about some of you having to have your shafts cut down and i wasnt sure about the pilot bearing going in the end of the crank. I already expect to have to cut down my drive line and was looking at the cross member on line but may consider fabricating my own. What do I have to do for the spedometer. I plan on Dakota guages.

I was talking to the guy at the local transmission shop in town the other day about a t5 and they wouldn't bother. They said in the 80's they used to pitch those when they worked on the mustang's cause they were junk and notorious for breaking ALOT. They said if I want a 5 speed to be sure and go with a tremtech or some other aftermarket 5 speed.

well your local trans shop owners sound like a bunch of tossers.

When looking for a T5 you want the world class t5s. these have conical bearings and are much better built. If you get a t5 from 90 to 93 you will be fine. Granted the NWC t5s are not as nice and I wouldnt want one in my car. remember all t5s are not created equal. So anyone that chucks out a t5 because it says t5 on it...is ...well... like I said a tosser.

I got lucky and got a 91 t5 that was built to z spec standards hard nickel gears and nice timkin bearings (not sure if timkin was original or not)

happy hunting.

world class started being build in 87 i believe...so anything after that should be cool to go. but make sure you get a T5 from a v8, or else you get a different input shaft, and that means you have to get another one of those too. if youy have to do that. its really not that hard to take the input/main shaft out.

The T-5 Is the only name i know of for that tranny, that local mustang guy must not know much.
Im in the process of doin the conversion myself and you shouldnt have a problem with the crankshaft when installing a T-5.
I got my t-5 off a totaled 1987 gt mustang (the tranny has engraved BorgWarner i dont know if that makes a difference) from this old lady for $400 it came with : BellHousing, FlyWheel, clutch and pressure plate.
Like Gun Jam mentioned
your gonna need:
new crank and flywheel bolts
a t5 1965-66 or 1967-1868mustang crossmember
block plate
pilot bearing
thowout bearing
and T-5 Slip Yoke
i would also get a new clutch.
Since you are doin this conversion i would consider you to go Hydraulic heres the link on how to do the setup:
http://midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/HYD%20Clutch.htm
Im not trying to promote or anything like that but i have hydraulic clutch master cylinder, clutch and brake pedal and a crossmember
they are all new except the pedals and can sell them if your interested.....
Good Luck on your conversion

Theirs only one kind of pedals and they are the original for 65,66 mustangs also the t-5 crossmember is for a 65/66 mustang as well as The Hydraulic M/C. these are all new except for the pedals but they are in great condition.
I was Gonna do a swap for my 66 mustang but sold it and got me a 68 and had to purchase the parts for that year because they are different.
Let me know if interested...
i can post some pictures of them later tonight when i get back from work if u want
