Default Glass

I went to clean my window's today and noticed that they had black spec's all over them. I then wiped them down with General Adhesive Cleaner and Gasoline to no avail. Has anyone had this problem? I think it's some undercoating of some type. I'm going to try some laquer thinner next and see how that work's.

If solvents and wiping don't work, take a straight razor blade to them and they ought to come right off with no harm to the glass at all.

Did that also.. some would come off but not easily. I wonder if it's like truck bedliner which someone down the line covered the entire underneath of the car with? Wonder what I could use to loosen it up a bit.

I don't think lacquer thinner will do much. Maybe some goof-off and a razor blade though. Anything you can do to soften it up will make the razor that much more effective. I've also heard of people using 0000 grade steel wool to take stuff off glass, I'm not sure how well that will work here though.

Has any metal work recently been done to the car? Floorboards or something like that?

The sparks from a cutting wheel or die-grinder are actually small particles of metal/cutting wheel material. If these sparks hit any glass surface while the spark is still hot, it will burn the glass and leave small black "dots" like you've mentioned.

Not while I've owned the car. I removed all the glass befor grinding and welding. Is their any way to remove the spots if they are infact burnt in?

Funny coincidence. I knew a guy who knew a guy who had a pitted windshield. A neighbor's kid hit it with a baseball which cracked it. The unlucky fella claimed it on his comprehensive and his insurance company bought him a new one, all shiny and clear, installed and everything. Damn kids.
