Yea Dco, there is a "truck performance" shop nearby that annually holds a diesel dyno competition. They get some insane numbers, especially on the Tq. I believe a few were over 1000ftlbs..

anything is possible with a cut off tool and a welder.

but there is no point. that motor was built to pull heavy loads. it has a lot of torque but not a whole lot of hp, plus it weighs a ton. youd have to modify pretty much every aspect of the front half, from the inner fender wells, to the floor boards.

but really this is kinda a dumb question.
you do realize that with a few mods and a tune you can get 750+ hp & tq out of those diesel engines they put in the trucks now a days right?

some minor mechanical changes, propane injection, power tuner and you can get crazy numbers out of them.

oh and search around on youtube theres an older monte carlo (IIRC early 70s) that a guy dropped a diesel in

"1100 cubic inch, 5.4 bore x 6.0 stroke. As it sits naturally aspirated an easy 900 HP and 1300 FT.LBS. These engines will make over 3000 HP with boost using a lot of stock parts. "

i know that the motors are capable of power. but the question was dumb. i know a honda civic engine that makes 800 hp out of 4 cyls, and its down the street from me. does that mean i would put civic engine in my mustang? does that mean that a stock civic engine makes 800 hp?

the point is the post is kinda a joke, and it reminds me of when i was 10 and i just bought my first 1970 mach 1 and i told my dads friend i wanted to put a semi truck motor in it because its so big itll go fast.

excuse my english next time ill just say its a dumb post. your right the diesels are cool and a turbo diesel s 197 would be a cool project.

but the amount of work involved with a 4.6 DOHC or 5.4 is ridicoulus as it is.

i personally dont believe diesels belong in a classic mustang.

now a high efficiency v8 diesel with a well thought out layout would be a very cool project in a fox or a s 197.

theres a lot of work with turbos that people dont think of. your basically starting from scratch.
