Default Electrical Grounds

Putting the wiring back in the car, two quick questions. I know one of the ground cables goes from the battery to the front of the engine block. The second one i figure goes from the back of the engine block to the firewall? Does anyone have a quick pic of both...

Thanks in advanced

Rob

I think it"s better to run your chassis ground directly from the battery connection to the block. That way you are not forcing all of the chassis electrical current to pass through the block and possibly set up galvanic action inside (especially if you have both iron and aluminum parts in contact with the coolant).

The second one goes from the same bolt on the block as the cable from battery to block, to the top of the frame rail below the battery, in a spot directly above the sway bar. There should be a hole there for the bolt.

Found a wiring diagram which shows both ground cables, one from the battery to the engine, the other goes from the fire wall to which seems to be the back of the engine.

I remember when pulling the engine there was a ground strap from the fire wall to the motor, strap was rusty so i threw it out. My car is a 66. so maybe a year change?

My 65 has the ground strap, hanging from the firewall right now(no engine in).

Just make sure the grounds have clean bare metal, for best connections.

Decided to go to my local stereo shop and pick up some 2 or 4 gauge wire, gold eye loops and battery connector(s). That should help for a nice solid connection.
