Is This a 1969 Mustang Jack ???? Hump on Top
HI,
I have what I assume is a Mustang Jack from 1969... but there is a "hump" welded onto the top of this. I have seen an identical jack on ebay but have not been able to get info on what the "hump" was intended to provide.
In other news I am working on a identification guide for old car jacks. We have ID guides for marbles, barbie dolls, and victrolas... why not old car jacks. In dusty barns all across the planet sit old jacks that need to find their way back to the correct vehicle...!

My '69 doesn't have a hump in the jack, but design features, like gas tanks and gauges, have been known to change within a production year, so it could be a must jack. Also, as you know, Cougar and Mustang shared many parts those years.
There's a small cutout in the frame just in front of the rear wheels (and just behind the front wheels) where the jack hump can fit snugly. I think this may have been designed for the jack as a safety feature, but I'm guessing. It really helps if you're jacking on a hill.
My jack and spare live in my garage to save weight. In the last 17 years, I got one flat 12 years ago and I called AAA.

rst08tierney....
Is your pal's car a fast back ? I picked this up from a neighbor who had several 69 Fastbacks.
Nabster....
Thank you for the photo, as your pictured jack is exactly like the jack minus the welded hump. When time is available... take a wire brush to that jack of yours... hit it with some black paint... your Mustang will thank you.

I found a jack like that in the rear trunk drop off of my 65 Mustang in an original plaid vinyl jack bag. (Think bag was original, ancient looking and slightly different than repro's I have seen.)
Mine had a little sticker on the side that said something like "see manual for jacking instructions" printed in all caps (dot matrix looking).

Hello,
If you look at your trunk sticker for your pare tire and jack instructions, you'll see that there is a notch on top of the jack. The correct sticker for 1969 Mustang is C9ZB-D located on the sticker. I hope this helps. But of course that's not to say this is 100% accurate.
Good Luck,
Johnny
