Default Virtual Engine Dyno

Have any of you ever used a Virtual Dyno to estimate how much power you are making? I bought one yesterday to use. I like the oneI bought because It allows you to plug in the flow data of the heads for a more accurate estimate. Also, if you don't know the flow data, you can give it the runner size and it will "guess" at what it would flow to get a power estimate. I didn't really buy it to tell me my total power, but I can edit the engine and add different parts to get an idea of how much they would help. So basically I can swap heads, the cam, intake, add different style of exhaust, or intakes on the program to see if it would be worth fooling with in real life. It has Nitrous, turbo, and supercharger capabilities as well, and can even figure up your "actual" (forgot the correct word)compression.

With all of my engine specs plugged in (including the flow data of the heads, which came off of the Edelbrock website), it came up with 430 HP @ 5250 RPM & 484 Lb Ft of Torque at 3500 RPM. It says that it should be within 5% of actual power.

Im not posting this to hear arguements about how these programsare inaccurate or whatever, so don't even go there. I am just wondering if anybody has used one of these and then had it dynoed for real to see how close the 2 were. I merely bought this program to see which future mods will help the most, not to get actual power numbers.

I use ProRacing Sim DynoSim. It shows 467hp @6000 and 470ft*lbs @4500 for my 383 setup. You put in actual cam specs, head flows, valve lift, intake/carb flow, headers, etc and it cranks out a power curve. The only thing you cannot do is play with timing, spark pugs, engine temp, etc. I have not dynoed my car yet because we are still working on the tuning, but based on other cars that have been dynoed, I bet it is within 5%.

Thats cool. I bought Virtual Engine Dyno 2005 offline. However, I just found a glitch. No matter what your combo is, it will always show the most power if you tell it a single high flow exhaust. This isn't right.

However, the program does allow you to adjust spark and cam timing, intake style, carb CFM flow, head CFM flow at .100-.800 lifts, head port size, it asks if any port work has been done & if so how extensive, actual cam specs, bore/stroke, compression ratio, type of cam (hyd. roller, hyd., solid, solid roller, ect), type of rocker arms, exhaust style, and any type of power adders. It can also determine power from types of fuel injection systems and how its been tuned if you are not running a carb. Basically, you can plug in everything except temperature, spark plug type, and ignition type (such as MSD or stock).

Overall I feel that it was a good program for $40.

mine showed great power, with the gt40p heads, said i had right at 345 hp, but i highly doubt that. - now with the edelbrock heads it lifted to almost 405 hp but again, i doubt that.
