Crazy VIN Story
My 1965 is a Frankenstein. It got wrecked somehwere along the way, before Ford began adding the VIN on the dashboard. So the original VIN is no longer to be found on the car itself. The only VIN that is found comes from a replacement driver's door and front left fender. Basically the car had been in a pretty serious front-end collision requiring replacement parts from another VIN.
Weird but true story. The car title has changed several times using the original (no longer to be found) VIN but I plan to retitle it using the VIN from the replacement parts.

There are likely a few remaining original VIN's on the car. They're just hidden
Go post on the main forum onhttp://fomoco.phpbbnow.comand they should be able to tell you where they all are. The only one I know the location of is on the p-side fender apron, but you have to remove the fender to see it.

You can get a new data plate for your door made with the correct vin from Mustangs Unlimited. You just have to give them the info.

You'll be much better off going that route than trying to change your vin on your records.

You are asking for big trouble if your switch the Vin. What if the Vin you switch to belongs to a stolen, wrecked, or someone else's car in the MVA Records. Somewhere sometime the Vin you want to switch to was registered somewhere to someone. And it may be illegal. Wasn't that one of the problems Unique ran into.
Why do you want to switch it anyway?

Another reason I was thinking of changing: Let's say I get pulled over and have to prove my title to what I am driving. The VIN on my certificate of title will not match the VIN showing on the car. That will be hard to explain to a police officer or a future buyer.
I have run the traps on both the "true" oriignal VIN and the "replacement" VIN and both are clean. Neither VIN has been reported stolen.
