get the studs install them in the valance put a little grease etc on the end of the stud swing it in place drill where marked
Won't that actually place the mark too low, considering the length of the stud and the fact the valance is attached at the top? Wouldn't he be better off placing some grease around the stud hole on the valance and not have the stud in?

well the hole is larger than it need to be from the factory i imagine if he got in trunk and poked around with a screw drive he would find the old holes maybe even a little doodle of filler or fiberglass coming thru
