Default New stuff = New problems

Well I recently went to and got new tire's and rim's put on my 66 and driving home the steering wheel became pretty much useless to the left and everytime I hit a bump it went crazy. Got it home and have played with it for a few day's. Jacked it up and turned the wheel the wheel is tight, adjusted the screw on the top of the steering box to make it a bit tighter. Ok... seem's fine even when not moving. Once you gain any speed the wheel becomes loose to the left and crazy when you hit a bump. I didn't have it aligned at the time figuring it would be ok to drive around till I replace everything. Could this be caused by just the alignment? Ball joints and everything appear to be tight and I have jacked it up and their is no improper movement in the front suspenstion.

Sounds like something's loose. Control arm bushing, strut rod bushing, something's got to be loose. Take it to a shop and get it checked out ASAP. Many shops will do free suspension checks

new rims and tires usually means you should get it aligned too. that way everything will get along and ride smooth together.

Let us know if you made it to the shop in one piece.

Well I made it back to town and as I thought EVERYTHING was tight and in working order. Got it aligned, but the steering wheel still gos loose to the left when you get moving? I would think the steering box would show this freeplay when it's sittin still or up in the air if this was the problem?

Like I said, something is loose. No respectable alignment shop will align a car in that shape. Find yourself another shop and have it checked out.

I went with 17 x 8 rim's with 4.75 backspacing, wrapped in 245/45/17 tires. The shop that I had check everything out (because I couldn't find out what was wrong) rechecked everything and aligned it for free. We do alot of business with them and I personally wouldn't doubt what they do.

I just posted a simular problem, on my 65' I put on 225/55 16" wheels. I rebuilt the front end and 2 different alignment shops can't get the car to stop darting and wondering all over the road. I hope someone can help me.

Did you do the negative roll or shelby drop to correct the issue 65-66 cars have with larger wheels? Don't know much about it myself, but it is a known issue.
