69 MACH 1-correct engine

Id pick a Windsor over the cleavland any day
but yeah, as stated, 1969and early 1970=351w-428cj (of which i believe all 428's had shaker hoods) rest of 1970=351c-428cj

id be embarrassed to have one without a shaker, although the regular scoop looks badass, and you cant beat the turn signals in the back because you cant hear the damn clicker over the sound of the exhaust
its even better when your P.O cut a nice little hole in the hood, essentially giving my mach Ram Air =D

Don't forget the S code 390 Mach 1's. R code is the shaker 428CJ motor & Q code is the Non-Shaker 428CJ.Mustangs in 1969 had a multitude of engines to choose from two six-cylinders (200 & 250 cu in.), and eight different V8 options. Mach's started with the 351 2v (H code)but you could get 351 4v (M code), 390 4v (S code), 428CJ Ram Air (R code), 428CJ Non-Ram Air (Q code).
There was a guy here in town that he swore was an original machI with a 'Z' code FE, (390 2bbl). It sure looked stock and correct. It wasn't a restored trailerqueen so I tend to believe him.
10 Years ago I would have gone with the 351 Cleveland myself, But now days the Windsor is much more common and cheaper to build.Unless of course the car had a Cleveland in it to begin with. WINDSOR is the only way to go
I don't know about the "Z code" thing, but a 390 was an option in the 1969 Mach 1. I believe they dropped that option for 1970. So if someone tells you they have an orginal 1969 390 Mach 1 he could be correct.
I'm not about this, but I thought that the "shaker" was nothing more then an option. I know for a fact that you could even get the shaker option on a 351 W 2 barrel. This shaker option is the rarest of all. Also, almost every Boss 302 did not come with a shaker, yet most of the ones you see today have them. I'm too lazy to go look, but I have an original order/option form for the 1970 Mustangs. Its the same thing you can do on the Ford site today, but back then you needed a pen. LOL. I recall that if you chose to go with a 428 CJ instead of the base 351 C 2V, it cost you something like $100.00. Sick isn't it?

Yeah I remembered the 390 but I couldn't recall if they were put in to mach 1's or not, could have ended in 1968. But now that it was mentioned I remember, and the reason you don't really see the 390s is because for just a few bucks more you can just get a 428cj so many opted for the 428 over the 390.
and yes windsor FTW! so easy to work on (even though I havn't had to do much)
everyone that asks which engine I have I say "351" they reply "cleveland?" "uhh no windsor" then I get the "oh..." as if it "sucks to have the windsor hahaha Even though the windsor is more common people still think about the cleveland

I know I talk about clevelands alot when the topic arises. But next in line as far as small blocks go I would want a windsor. I had one in my 65 and it was awesome. I could smoke the tires of that thing it would not hook up and I loved it...
