New alternator wiring
I purchased a ford single wire alt from summit. it has the internal regulator. So here is my question. Can someone tell me the correct way to wire it and delete the stock regulator. I am still new and hate wiring.
can someone also show how to wire the new starter that i will be using from the t5. im not sure since the new started has the soleniod on it instead of the original one on the bay
I removed the stock regulator, kept the solenoid, and wired the new alternator directly to the post on solenoid that the battery positive wire goes to. Have you replaced the starter with one that has a built-in solenoid? Let me know if you do and I'll tell you how to wire that in the system also. Good luck. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
No i bought a starter without the noid. what did you do with the blabk-yellow wire and the green-red wire that cam from the reg. connecter. they originally went to the reg,and the solenoid and back to the ign. do they connect to the positve side of the noid as well?

If its a 65 there's going to be a problem.

The one wire alternator will want a short heavy gage wire run from the hot side (battery side) of the stock starter solenoid to the alternator....
Forget about the regulator, it has now passed into the realm of obsoleteisim... where it belongs...

The issue with 65 alt cars is that they need a wire to the Vreg to turn on/off th AMP Lite on the dash. As long as you don't mindthe litenot working you can just put the one wire (at least 10 Gauge, 2-6 gais better) from the solenoid to the alternator and be done with it.
Also, check with the manufacturer of the new alternator and find out what rpm you don't want to exceed. The powermaster one that I have says don't exceed 18000 rpm's on the alternator pulley. You get this rpm by dividing your crank pulley size by the alternator pulley size and then multiply that number by your highest expected engine rpm. Here is the formula:
Crank Pulley / Alternator Pulley = Pulley Ratio
Then:
(Pulley Ratio) x (Max. Engine RPM) = Max Alternator RPM
Mine is this:
5.5 / 2.6875 = 2.046512
Then:
2.046512 x 8000 = 16372.096 Max Alt. RPM's
You don't want to go over the recommended max alt. rpm's because you could cause damage to the alternator and have to replace it again. If your rpm's are too high, you can either use a larger diameter alt. pulley or use a smaller diameter crank pulley. Good luck!
