Default welding help

this is for those guys/gals, who've done body work & welding. When MIG welding, can you get as good a weld using innershield flux-core wire, as you can with solid wire and 75/25 gas mix? I'm picking up a miller 135 and need to determine if I can get by with flux-core, or need to spend extra on a tank/regulator.

I have limited experience MIG welding but I have always had good luck with the shielded gas. I recommend shelling out the extra money and skipping the flux core.

+1. I've done both and the clean up on the flux core can be a problem. If you don't removeall the slagyou will have corrosion problems. I don't know for certain if there is any strength difference within the welds, but the using gas to shield the arc produces a much more "professional" looking weld. my .02.

BTW, I bought a new Miller 175 and it came with the regulator and hoses. I don't know if the 135 does or not.

ive dont both, having a shielding gas is the way to go. You can get a much better weld as well as have a lot more versatility as to material thickness. (it effects penetration)

..and another vote for Shielding Gas...I use C-25 for my sheetmetal welding. I did a couple complete jobs with Shielded Core wire, and it was HORRIBLE! Spatter everywhere...burn through.....

After the 2nd job took 2x longer than is should have, I went out and bought a tank....

do not get a welder that doesnt have a gas hookup. the welds suck and are ugly.

get the one with the argon hookup.
