Default What engine?

I am looking to buy my first classic mustang, & the year will be somewhere between '65 & 70. I don't know what engine to put in though or what all will even fit. Does anyone have a complete list of what all engine sizes would fit in those particular years?

Just depends on what years. Different year can fit different engines.

I know that 65-66 can fit a 351w. Not sure about the rest.

67-68 can handle i think comfortably UP TO the FE blocks. (390, 427, etc)

69-70 can handle a 460 I think with no serious modification, at least as far as overall fit goes.

Overall, your best bet is.... without questions...

I can speak for the 68, 69s, and 70s because that is what I play with.

They can fit from the factory:
289
302
351W
351C
390FE
427FE
428FE
429

The 429 is a 460 family block. I am not sure if460 will work in there or not. It would depend if it were the same block as the 429. Long story short, you can put lots of CID in a 69 or 70. Now you may not fit headers and all your accessories, but they are do able. You can always go with a small block stroker based on an aftermarket block. You can get upto 455 CID out of a Ford small block from DART. You can do that and still use headers, PS, PB, AC, and etc. not modify the hood or shock towers.

64 - 66 will easily accept 289 or 302, with a little work a 351 will go easy enough....

67 and up will take virtually all popular Ford V-8 engines except for "mod motors", even these can fit with lots of work if you really want one to go.....

That is the simple skinny of the situation....
