I'm upgrading from a 289 to a 351w with the Edelbrock Performer series cam, intake, 600 carb and heads. Might up the carb to a 700/750 later if I find its bogging much however I have a 600 already. DD for the wife so nothing extreme. I want to stick with stock front suspension and was wondering if there is adifference in suspensions between the 289 and a 351w? Also wanted to ask what you'd suggest keeping in mind I'm attempting to maintain a budget (yeah ok.. past that long ago
).
).
DD for the wife says it all, I would do the UCA drop, install a set of roller perches if you can afford them (I am about to put them on sale) install performance shocks and have it aligned to performance specs. Use stock springs, sense it is a DD the extra weight of the 351 will not make that much difference sense it is not that much heavier than the 289. I did the exact same things for my wife's 66 (her DD until we sold it) and she loved it. It handled well enough that it was still fun to drive, but the ride was not harsh at all like a stiff suspension.

Yeah I'm doing the UCA drop for sure. Thought it was pretty much the same stock front end between the SBs but wanted to make sure. Might take you up on the perches as I we were talking about that a few days ago.
