personally, everything i have seen painted by maaco has looked pretty crappy. Ive done better paint jobs for $100 + cost of materials out of my parents garage that looked better.

The one job i saw done was over a red car, literally within 6 months the maaco paint was just rubbing off and red was showing through on the rockers and fender wells.

If you are doing everything yourself, why not try painting it yourself? i wouldnt get the cheapy gun but craftsman has some for $150 that do pretty good especially for a base clear. Personally having used a SATA you do notice the difference in a more expensive gun but even at that its just cost savings due to even less over spray.

Do the trunk lid one weekend and see how you think you did and then try and get brave to do the rest.

seriously, base clear is not as hard as everyone thinks. 90% of a good paint job is the prep work.

it'slike they say ,,you get what you pay for,,,here in Phoenix it seems like a mixed bag,,BUT ONE THING everyone agrees on is the prep work,,,Macco seems to have issues across the board but can shoot a decent job

You know if a lot of people out there need their mustang painted and you feel comfortable with having maaco do it then go for it. Not everyone has 10k+ to spend on a silly paint job. I mean, like said before, they just may get good by mistake if that is what they do everyday.I do believe that you get what you pay for, but for 2K-3K, you can get a decent paint job for that from maaco. For the avaerage car,I believe you peak out at around 10K anyways on a paint job. Spending much more than that, there are less and less noticeable improvements one can do to make it worth it. I will spend about $6500 on mine when it's all said and done, hopefully have it back sometime in August. It's been theresince May 1st. (not at maaco)

I've had a couple of small fixes done atmaaco and they came out really good. But that was on my dd cars. My mustang will be a dd too but I think it will draw more attention so I wanted something a little better and the caliber of work I needed done I felt was above maaco's ability. (fiberglass frontend, racing srtipes, etc) If you rlooking for a fresh paint job with little body work, I say go for it, especially if your on a limited budget. Good luck.

You know how you can tell a guy who has a $10,000 paint job on his Mustang? He's the one who is vomiting in the parking lot after seeing the door ding. Unless you have a trailer queen, then go with a driver paint job. I've heard all the horror stories, but I can say that back in the late 70's I had a 1973 Ford F 100 painted by Macco, and it was a color change. They did a terrific job. I was one happy 17 year old guy driving around in my sharp looking truck. I had the truck for five years and never had an issue with the paint.

I don't know if all Maaco's are different or if their practices are the same today.....but in the late '80s or early '90s my friend worked for one.....he told me that they didn't mask anything. If they didn't want it to be painted it was smeard with a jelly like vasoline then they shot the car whole ....after the paint "cured" they washed the jelly off the car.

I'm going to have my DD painted by Maaco, but I'm going to let my restoration shop do my Mustang. Having said that it will cost much more but I plan on having it around for a very long time and taking it to car shows with my brothers.

no kidding. if i wanted to go to a shop (not maaco)to get my mustang painted, no one would touch it for under 7k. that is wayyyy to much for a 15 year old kid, if you know what i mean. besides its not a show car, its just my dd. i guess what made me post what i did earlier in the thread was because the dude that runs the maaco by me was a d**k

My friend's experience with MACCO was bad,Lots of over spray and not a very good job of masking things off or prep. He had to take it back to MACCO twice to have it re-painted.
His car was completely ready for paint he took it to MACCO in sanded primer.
Then again I paid a local body shop guy to do my car and ended up with a slightly higher quality job.I had lots of overspray but most of it was in the wheel wells and under the car.
You get what you pay for,If you want a fast cheap paint job that is what you will get (hopefully).

HERE IS THE CAR WITH A MACCO PAINT JOB

I thinjk what you have to decide for yourself is do you need a paint job or do you need restoration. Most of these old cars have rust problems and cracking laquer paint. If that is the case a paint job only hides it a few years. I am restoring my 69 F100 right now and the guy that is helping me did resorations for many years. He is really teaching me a lot that I will use on the Mustang soon.
