Default Tach placement??

Ok guys, I got a tach to put in my car because with this new engine it's going to have more performance, and I wanted something somewhat small to put in. It's a 3 and 3/8ths inch autometer tach I'm trying to put in my 67. I don't have room on the dash as it's too small and I would like a placement that is somewhat tasteful. If you guys can put up some pictures of where you placed your tachs.

Honestly, since you have a '67, what I would do is return that tach and go buy a tach designed to fit in the clock hole. Unless of course you have a clock, but they're rare I hacked a Jeep tach into my clock hole in my 67, but there's a company now that makes them that will bolt in without any modifications. Look on ebay, they're floating around. I believe the company is based in Australia.

They are called mini-tach. Only like 90 for a tach that looks like it goes there.

or you could take out your small two gauges in your 5 inch opening and delete the electrical gauage all together.

put a large tach in the 5 inch opening and move the opther two guagues into the middle and no vacant opeining in the guage display.

Here is how I mounted mine. I know that I dont need two tachs, but the one on the a-pillar is easier to see when drag racing and the one in the cluster kinda completes the look with the new gauges that I put in....

Yeah, I saw Mustangs Unlimited had the "mini-tach" in my Mustang Monthly. MM also did a write up about a year ago on them and the installation (favorable, I believe). I've been wanting to get one... If anyone has any feedback, I'd be interested to hear.

I hacked the CJJeep tach into my dash just before that tach became available. The idea is similar, but it would've made life a lot easier for me had it just bolted into place.

I absolutely love the tach in that spot, though. It's very clean, very easy to see while driving, and it looks like it belongs there. Unless you're looking and you know there was never a tach option for that hole, you'd never know it wasn't original.

I have a 8K mini tach. I had it in my cluster where the clock goes. I've since completely redone my instrument cluster (see sig pic). If you're interested in buying a mini-tach, I'll sell you mine for 1/2 what you'll buy a new one for. $40 + $5 shipping. PM me if you're interested.

Years ago I had a tach mounted to the A-pillar in a different car - it works there very well for more than just at the dragstrip especially if you do not have some sort of rev limiter or fuel cut such as is on most new cars with EFI.

I think it was a 3-3/8" unit, still have it buried in some box somewhere (but not the car any more).
