lighten up....the guy just asked a question, wanting to hear some stories....
Wanting to hear some stories that are going to be read by some 15 year old kid on a driving permit that thinks he knows everything.... You'all are going to feel like pieces of $hit when little Johnny's Mom logs in and sees that her son was reading/posting about irresponsible unsafe speed just a few hours before he wrapped hisskull around a guardrail @120 MPH.... and then the website owner is sued, IP addresses are collected, and the people who are bragging about their stupidity (instead of condeming it) are identified and drug into a courtroom.

Being anonymous (AV8forfun) on a forum does not give anyone the right to promote or glorify something as stupid as high speed driving in an uncontrolled environment. It's called personal responsibility.

BTW, I am lightened up.

Dave

i have to agree with davesanborn on this. in todays world we cant really allow things like that to end up on the web. like all the medical school kids who are getting kicked out of school for pics of parties they go to.

there is a street/strip section of teh forum and thats kinda where this thread should go if it exists. if a newb of any kind joined the forum he might start to get the idea that these cars are high perfomance machines. which they are not.

i have stories too, and the pics and videos to prove it. but id dont think its wise to post that on the internet.

I went 140 in my brothers 2005 GTO... damn, and the best part, it was a car cruise there were about 150 cars there. my brother and i were in his GTO i didnt have my 65 yet. we were racing a old trans am... we dida rolling 60 start and when we hit 140 my brother backed down lol considering before that 110 was the fastest we'd been. the trans am killed us 4 times. that was before my brother replaced his clutch. he upgraded to a killer tranny and didnt do the clutch. the stock clutch couldnt handle the high rpms and locked him out of gears for a couple seconds each so that didnt help us but still WOW. i've only been 80 in my mustang but idc about speed in my car, i want to for the car not the speed

i didn't want to start trouble.........................i know the street is not a place to do this stuff. after my high speed accident i lost my taste/lust for high speed driving. i am lucky to be alive and learned my lesson for those who think i am a wreckless person. it was one time that i decided to do it and it only took one time. some get lucky and others even die, taking lives with them.

luckily i restored my car and i can enjoy my car again. i am curious of what people have done. i do not condone these acts.

thank you all for the replies. cool stories and cars.

remember, we are sharing our experiences, no one ever promoted these acts and no one is saying that it is ok to do. there is a strip/ circle track for this stuff.

these old cars are for fun, you only decide what you do in your life and how you deal with the hormones, urges, and stupid acts especially associated with the teen years.

people are going to do what they are going to do, just remember this, don't think you are invincible because you got away withANYTHING(not just speeding or racing)the first couple of times. it only takes thatONE time that everything goes wrong.

as for any 15 year old or kid around that age, you cannot penetrate that thick skull of theirs. it is hard to say, but people need to make their own mistakes in life. that is how we learn and grow as wise adults. we can only advise the younger crowd of things, they will do what they are going to do regardless. we can only hope that the millons of other bad things on the web don't come across any kids with permits or guns at their disposal.

i think of this as an exploratory, interesting way to get to know the people here. it is fun to learn about some experiences you guys have had and it is a break from the usual "what is your name, what do you do, where do you live," etc.

again, thank you for replying and keep em coming if there are more out there.

I can tell you that anything over 75 in my mustang is scary. The front is so light it lifts easy.

My car: ~110, with 3 heavy passengers and luggage for all of us. Looking back, I'm glad the car was full, because the nose got really light even with that much weight.

My mom's 96 Town & Country: 105 Same road, with my mom in the passenger seat. She told me to go faster, so I did

Fastest ever: My roommate's old '97 WS-6 Trans-Am. The windows pop out at 135, and we had it going 145 at one point. I drove it at 110-120 for a while coming down Hwy 101 at 2am. Most stable car I've ever driven. Not that it makes me hate the bodystyle any less, but it does stick to the roadvery well, especially with 275/45ZR17 Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. At least it did, until he wrapped it around a pole...

that's an excellent point, we've all been 15-16 and know whats that like, you have way more testosterone and thrill-seeking juice coursing thru your veins than you do common sense...I did so much dumb **** in my youth that its a miracle I'm alive today, I don't recommend any of it to anyone. But 90% of the posts I've seen in this thread told their story but summed it up with a cautionary "stupidest thing I ever did" type statement so suggesting that people are condoning this sort of thing is just bull****e. Even in a properly tuned car going 100 mph is dangerous, in a stock mustang its borderline crazy.

That all said:

-110 in my '69, still felt like it had plenty to go but it started to feel pretty squirrely around 100
-about 130 in my former Jetta VR6
-160 in a Vette Z06 on a straightaway (I wasn't driving, I almost wet myself)

I do not want to ruffle any feathers but why do people like you own mustangs. I mean you say its not a high performance machine yet if you build it correctly they are. Why do you say that people can be sued here because some kid could read this then want to go out and do the same thing just to post it. There are thousands upon thousands of movies out today where people go well over the speed limit every single time. Remember Fast and Furious was doing over 150 MPH in a 94 Mazda RX-7. I did it first. But it was there for kids to see. Did anyone get sued over that movie? Hell no. Its you PC police that amaze me. We and I mean every damn one of us build these cars to make them more able to go faster and be more reliable. I build mine to handle the road better then original. I actually moved the weight around in the car to make it balanced so that the front end does not stick up in the air. 1 1/4" anit sway in the front and now that I know the rear moves around a bit above 100 I will add one in the back along with a functional spoiler. Do you people not realise that the only way to find out if what we are doing to our cars actually works is to try it out then you are really in the wrong place. Now if there are any rules against this thread then I will stop talking about it but I spent over $3000 on my car to make it drive like a sports car and handle like a modern car. I will try it out and if I did its my damn fault not any of yours. What rubbish it is to imply that a member here would be repsonsilbe for a kid dying. I would not feel bad about it one darn bit. These cars are not meant to be in hands of kids. And niether are todays sports cars.

The fastest I've ever gone was 120 on a Datsun 240 Z when I was in my 20s. The friggin' car almost lifted in the air...that was kinda scary, lol.

The fastest I've gone 20 years later is 95 on my present 64 1/2 Mustang...and that's because I was just testing its speed...but I normally don't go over 75.

I went maybe 90 or so in my mach 1, it gets really scary because there is still a lot of play in the steering wheel and my suspension sure isn't the best considering its like a foot in the air...

and I went over 100 in my moms 08 toyota avalon at 4 in the morning on the 405 free way. This was around when I first got my license so I guess that wasn't the brightest thing, but at least I chose a time when there was no one on the road and when i hit 100-105 i immediately slowed down to the proper speed.

and edit, those toyota avalon's with the v6's are pretty damn fast, like you can wheel hop and screech the tires and all that. Not bad for a toyota family sedan haha
