Default Gas Mileage

What kind of gas mileage is typical for a 68 AT Coupe completely stock driven very conservatively. My gas mileage was around 10-11 and for some reason i expected it to be higher. Is that pretty normal?

That does seem low. I would think 15-18 highway maybe.

I've got a 260 V8 with a T5 tranny (0.63 OD gear if I remember correctly) and AC (replaced the York compressor with a new Sanden)

City mileage ~ 16 to 19 mpg (AC drags down the mpg)

Highway mileage ~ 22-24 mpg (windows open vs closed - and AC not always on)

A good tuneup, new plugs and such, along with some carb tuning for better efficiency, will help that. After 40 years, you can expect things to come out of tune.

yea right now with strictly city driving my '65 with a 289 2V gets about 13mpg?

ive only done plugs & wires. still need to get te new points/condensor/cap/rotor in there and tune the carb.

What rear end are you running and what is your transmission you are talking about. What carb do you have and do you ever smell raw gas. Do you see any leaks from your carb diaprhagm?
