weird squeak
just removed the coil springs and replaced the spring seats in my 66 coupe (289,c4,drum brakes). got it all put back together. i took it for a test drive and for the first block ortwo it was fine. all of the sudden it started squeaking fairly loudly. i really couldn't tell where it was coming from. after about 60 seconds the squeaking stopped, then i turned the corner it started again. so i go home and a buddy shows up. i take him out to hear this squeak and it only squeaks once, very breifly and way quieter than before. he probbably thinks im paranoid now but anyway, is this sounding familiar to anyone.
thanks
thanks
ok... heres the latest... the squeak has not gone away so it took the wheels off to take another look. come to find out the upper control arm bushings are worn out. takes some muscle but you can shake it a little bit if you try. could this be the problem? im not looking forward to removing those springs again!
it's fairly common for 64-66 stangs to speak like mad when the bushings dry out.
Try if you can hear it already if you push the front down (like as when you are testing springs). There is a grease nipple at the UCA that is impossible to get to. But try with some WD40 first ( a lot of it) to see if it temporarly goes away.
This is not a solutionn for the problem, but will help isolating it

now that you mention it there is a small crack on my shock tower cap (the thing that the top of the shock bolts to). maybe its a combination of the worn UCA bushing and this crack but it never made this noise before i changed the spring seats.
