Default Installing a New *&%#@ Ignition Switch

The ignition switch in my 65 Coupe fell apart (literally), and I am replacing it. Everything is hooking up fine switch-wise, but for the life of me I can't get the f-in lock cylinder to seat and click in place. Just will not engage. Know am supposed to align and then push and turn to lock it into place. But won't go.

Anyone have insight? Got the switch and cylinder from Autozone, and are to spec.

The crapzone! I have never had any luck with them getting me the right parts. They have always been junkordidn't fit correctly.Either the parts are not made correctly or you are doing it wrong.

They can be a bear to install. If you think you have the pins lined up with the slots, then it sounds like you just need that last gasp push to clear the slots and be able to turn it. Take a walk, and then try it again. Cheers..

Is that the one on the dash? I think you have to put the cylinder in and push the button with a paperclip (the little hole next to the key). Rotate counter clockwise while holding the button in. It should push in then and be able to turn to acc and lock in.

On my '66 I had to use the paper clip to release the lock to get mine back in as well....thought it was just me but maybe not.

Parts are right. Triple checked that...

Way they are built, it is really hard to tell if the flange on the lock cylinder is actually seated in the ignition switch slot. Only one way to put that bugger in. Will try pushing in the pin and turning. Instructions say clockwise to get it back in. I'll try the other way.

In the meantime, anyone up to giving me a push? [:@]

Clockwise reinstalls after it is in the counter clockwise position to insert.

Push the button and turn the key counter clockwise, then insert cylinder in the switch and turn clockwise.
