Default reverse manual valve body

so i went to the transmission shop today to check out my tranny after 2 weeks but they hadnt done anything to it. which was fine cause i dont NEED it yet. but it was actually good that they hadnt touched it yet cause i changed my mind on the whole thing.

i was gonna get it rebuilt with a shift kit and stock converter but now im going with a reverse full manual valve body and clean looking shifter. and since i know the guy hes only charging me for his price, no labor or markups. he told me what parts to order, and since im goin to sparks on saturday, ill just slip over to the summit racing store and get what i need with no shipping or tax

anyone else running a manual valve body on their car? i know someone on here said they were driving their brothers old car with one and it was fun. i figure i might as well do it since i shift like that a lot anyways with the stock shifter . im just so sick of fabricating and metalwork that i didnt want to do the whole clutch and pedal thing. which is what everyone was telling me to do since its more badass. but whatever.

this is the shifter they recommended. whats the red lever?

The red lever is so you can put your shifter into park or reverse since it has a reverse lock out on it.

Yep, the man is right.Manual VB are fun, std or rev. Look up redneck racing on ebay. that's where I got my transbrake. those are fun, too !! Pretty cheap when compared to aftermarket stuff. They use an OEM VB, which sometimes work better than the after market stuff.
PS, if your in Nevada, you will still have to pay their start tax because you are right in front of them. doesn't matter where you are a resident. Unless that state doesn't pay state tax.

so i have to use both hands to put it in park or reverse?

cpr, i dont think i need a transbrake, its gonna be my DD. and ive never been to the track and who knows when ill ever go. thats what its for right, better launching? and you said they use an OEM valve body, which means stock i assume. but im gonna have a aftermarket reverse valve body. so would the trans brake still work? im a total noob with trannys/gears.

I use a one handed reverse lockout shifter,

Works amazing and doesn't look so "drag car"..

yeah LCC i was looking at that one. im going to sparks this weekend so ill go check em all out. the transmission guy suggested the pro stick but i think ill prbably get the quicksilver. that way its a button on top to press rather than the huge lever.

No button. You lift the lever into gear then ratchet it through the gears, easy and safe.

hmm. how much/hard of a lift is it? you just lift it to get out of park or reverse? but then its just a easy push/pull to get from 1-2-3?

You know you have to get a shifter that is designed to work with a reverse valve body right? Park will be all the way back, and first will be all the way forward. Thats why its called a reverse valvebody, because the shift pattern is reversed. Have you looked into this valvebody from TCI:

I have this one, and it is manual and automatic, as well as a forward pattern. I shift it manually all the time (it is pretty cool), but If I left it in drive it would shift on its own.You can use a stock or any aftermarket shifter with this valvebody.

i'm the guy who said my brother's 70 dart has it and it is a lot of fun! they are right the red lever is the reverse lockout so you don't accidentally throw it in reverse or park after neutral when idling oron some especially hard shifts(depending what style shifter you have).

the red lever doesn't bother me at all. i just lift/push it with my middle finger and push the shifter into reverse or park with my palm, depressing the lever on the shifter as needed. a one handed operation that you need to get used to.

not all reverse pattern shifters have the whole thing reversed. my brother and i installed a gate platethat has park-reverse-neutral-1-2-3. we didn't have to change the shifter, just the gate plate (we had a B&M in it to begin with).

i guess the 1-2-3-neutral-reverse-park is for a more racy setup as it would be easier to start all the way at the top and come down to neutral at the end of the track. the setup my brother has on his 70 dart is fun and easy for street and track use. we upshift and downshift as necessary.
