Default Need some help on my c4

My c4 in the falcon is leaking really bad at the selector shaft. Does anyone know the repair process for this and can I buy the seals individually or do I need a rebuild kit. Dont worry this directly relates to my stang since I selling this to help finance the 73. the car has been sitting for the past year because it was eating up starters. Ate four of them in 1500 miles and also had a bad tick going on. I found that flexplate weight was hitting the blockplate this should be my ticking and I believe the flex is also killing my starters. With these items done I just need to address this nasty leak. Thanks for any help you can give!!

not sure if the c-4 is the same as the c-6 in the respect that to replace the seal like that on the c-6 I had to drop the valve body to un do mthe internal linkage to remove the selector shaft to get the seal out

I beleive you are correct about dropping the valve body. I have never done this before but now is as good a time as any to learn. Thanks for the input...

On the C4 it is an O ring around the shaft.

I don't think you have to drop the valve body but my memory is foggy on that.
On a 65 Mustang you have to drop, or lower, the tranny because the shaft will hit the tunnel before it comes out. Not sure about a Falcon.

O-rings are 'standard sizes'. If you can get a parts breakdown it will give the size. If you can't get a guide - take the old one to a garage - they have kits of assorted sizes. Just be sure to get one for transmission fluid.

I wanted to thank everyone for the help provided! I finally got it fixed to day. Yesterday I took it all apart and replaced the two seals only to end up with gear selector in the wrong position. I tore it back down today and corrected the problem. The car runs great and shifts awesome. I may have to keep it and have some fun with it until the stang is done. I am now going to paint the thing tomorrow. I am going to do it in hot rod flat black with flat silver scallops outlined in bright blue. Should look good when it is done. I will post some pics when it is back together.
