Frustrating Day
So I havent heard from the guy that is supposed to be doing my body wotk for almost 6 weeks. So I decided to just show up at his house to see what the hell is going on. Turns out he has been gone because his dad is dying in the hospital. Looks like he has not touched the car since the first week i gave it to him. He has had the car now for almost 5 months! Im so frustrated because I have already gave him 2k for materials to do the work. I feel like just taking my car back but i know if i do i will probably never see my money again. The car wouldnt start. I wanted to start it to get the fluids turning. Battery was dead and the cables we had where too small to get it to turn over. I think im going to go back and pick it up next week.

id get the car, your never supposed to mask hard lines on a panel like that. get the car, hope for your money. maybe file in court for the cash back if you have to, hope you had something in writing.
body work, always seems to have problems with getting it done and people staying honest... mind if i ask why the back part of the roof is taped off like that? double pain color?
rmodel; are you talking about the tape at the edge of the panels? just sorta curious to learn a little more bout body stuff.

One time I "worked a trade" for some body work on my 39 Ford.
After several weeks nothing was done... I started thinking, if the guy were to simply let my car "disappear", I would just be screwed. I went and got the car.
I learned a lesson, if you are going to have work done on a vehicle away from your home, make sure the guys/shops reputation is impecable... Be very aware of BillyJoeBob doing "side jobs" at his home... If the guy is a real working body man, he wont want to do side jobs, (because he will be sick of bodywork) If the guy is a real body man that is not working he is likely on meth, either way your car is not getting done. If he is a meth head then your car will eventually get traded away for an eight ball....
I would get the car
, chalk up the money spent to experience....

Ohhh I agree with JMD but I don't. 2k is alot for "experience"
But I agree totally with him saying if hes a real bodyman he absolutely will not want to do side jobs.
MY old man installs carpet on the side of working for Ford. He worked out a trade with another guy from Ford that he would nstall carpet in ths guys house, and this guy would come do some bulldozing / landscaping for us at our house.
Guy screwed up our back yard so bad that our basement started flooding... how much fun is it to spend a saturday from 7am till 7pm cleaning thousands of dollars in antque furniture and throwing them away because there is 2ft of water around everything?
Guy bailed. Took all his equipment and left. My old man kept his carpet.
Good news is the guy took his skidloader but left the metal tracks for it laying in our yard... for over a year. One day me and my buddy, (16 at the time) snapped some photos and put them on ebay for $100. They sold for over $2000.
Just saying, watch out for guys that don't really know what they're doing.
Anyway, tell the guy whats up. It sucks his Dad is dying, but he made arrangements with you and needs to stick to them. Tell them he needs to get working or you want all your money back. See where it goes from there.
On a side note, those wheels look bitchin'.

LOL im not a meth head ,I do some minor repairs myself but my main biz is graphics.
None of my clients side work or other ever need to hunt me down. They get calls almost daily on the progress of the project. There is no such thing as to much contact with details and just to make sure your client has a good state of confidence in you. Go get your car this guy is hosing you big time. Those wheels may be gone next. Try to pick up the materials he has bought with the receipt and the change. My guess is your cash is gone hes broke and hasnt done anything else to your car and is laying low until he can find some cash to put crapy materials into your car. Pull out while your cars intact. If all else fails small claims court may be in order. Hope it all works out the time for cutting this guy some slack has passed. BTW Is lead what you want in your car almost every high end painter I know torches it out and uses body filler now.
