do I have an A or C code ?
Nope thats incorrect. For 1966...
An "C" code 289 2V has a 9.3:1 ratio
An "A" code 289 4V has a 10.0:1 ratio
An "K" code 289 4V has a 10.5:1 ratio
The difference is in the pistons.
The bore & stroke is all the same as are the cylinder heads for the "A" & "C" code motors.. The "K" code had upgraded heads with spring pockets and higher pressure valve springs and different camshaft. All three shared the same head chamber CC's, valves and connecting rods, with bigger rod bolts in the "K" code. The "K" code had a slightly bigger bore/venturi carb. There are a few more differences but they are minor.

The A code engine also had a different cam than the C code.
