Can anyone ID an original trunk mat?
One of the few non original parts on my 65 was the trunk mat. The PO had bought a replacement. The replacement has the right pattern, is cut from one sheet of flat vinyl and has a black back. Recently a friend gave me some parts left over from a 66 restoration and they included what I think may be an original mat and matching spare tire cover. The mat and cover have the same pattern as the repro, but the backing is white felt and the mat is actually cut and sewn with seams to make it fit. Anyone know if this was how the originals were?
The original was molded 'rubber' material with die cut holes in it. It had a black back.
The vinyl repro is all die cut and has a white back. They also make molded 'rubber' like repros that are real close to original.
I have both. You can't line up the stripes on the repro and original because the spacing is different, although they appear the same.

Don't know about the tire cover, but I do know both the rubber back and the felt back are reproduced today, in my catalogs the felt "burtex" style are advertised as concourse correct, the exception being 65-66 coupes/converts built after 8/17/64 which used a rubber backed striped mat instead of the felt backed speckled. When I pulled the tattered remains of my original trunk mat out they were the felt back speckled.
