what specs do i need for a compressor to paint with? how big of a tank, psi etc....

Most of the time it tells you on the bottle of paint. I know you will need a limiter on the gun or on the hose.

A 20 gal 2hp Cambels hosfeld will do, worked fine for me till i out grew it and needed more volume, you will need a water trap with a pressure regulator on it to reduce the out put for your needs

okay. are pressure regulators/water trap available as add ons? i ask because i'll be borrowing the compressor from a friend and I don't know if he has that set up.

yes they are add ons, be sure to get a good one, not a tiny one. also you should use a regulator at the spray gun and a disposable filter before that regulator

Depending on the humity of the area you could use a filter like this at the compressor before the air hose

wow that stuff was actually hard to find online

also drain the compressor of all water before spraying
