I just picked up an '85 merkur for $1200. The plan was do a mustang II front end swap, but after having a shop quote 3200 i laughed and said no need for that. So next step is pull the 302 that's in the car now from my last project and clean everything up in the engine bay and begin some fabrication.
I will get some pictures of the car's this will be done in, i don't know how many of you are new so i'll post pics of all the cars once i get home.

*info on the swap*
My dad wanted to do this swap to help get better mpgs b/c he hates stopping at the pump b/c they take time out of his day...Gas Price doesn't bother either of us, it's the stopping so often.
***Now for the meat and taters***
the 1986 and earlier 2.3l turbo motors /computers are easier to manage and deal with due the lack of excessive wiring. Most of the wiring is wiring to the engine, and not to the chassis for random things. If anyone is interested in this, i will try to make this thread as detailed with pictures and step by steps as i can.
For us auto transmission guys(C4-C5)/ T5 guys, if your doing this swap and your doing this in the 67-68 Stang (might be the case for others but i dont know for sure), your driveshaft won't have to be changed, you might have to fab up your own brackets for the transmission though. Something many people wont do is put their transmission back, forward, left , or right just to try and save some trouble...well the problem with that is you might need a "custom" shaft , and that can get pricey. So my advice is move there transmission where YOU want it and it fits to save you the trouble of having a custom shaft made ( all this is to an extent of course).

There are a couple of us doing the 2.3T swap into our Classic Mustangs...
Check for thread started by me "spdrcer34" and "angliagasser"
We are both building these cars for our daughters. I used to own a 1986 Merkur XR4ti...it was an AWESOME car...

yeah you two are the reason i picked the 2.3l from ford, i was gonna swap ls1 + 6sp in my coupe and get 23mpg-27mpg, but i have a feeling i can get better than 30mpgs with a properly running 2.3l turbo motor
