Default Cowl Info?

Allright, I have read many posts on this but still muddy on some of the information. As I took the front fenders off the mustang, I found that there was some repairs done to the side cowl panels. I removed them to put in new sheet metal. As those came off I saw that they had also done repairs on the bottom cowl. One side of the cowl had a 4" PVC pipe for the vent and the other, a piece of some rodent control mechanism,(the sticker was still on there). I have some questions to removing the entire cowl.
1. Is the cowl structural, if so how do I prepare for removal? Do I have to brace it, if so where and with what? Keep in mind that the outer cowl sheet metal has been removed.

2. As far as the spot weld removal, I have seen that the drill bit is better. What size should I get, and how do I properly use it without tearing up too much?

I do want to keep the top part if possible, as I take the top part off I will see if I can just patch the bottom half corners with repair sheet metal panels?

Thanks.

1. the cowl is structural, remove the motor and trans. if they are not already out and support the frame rails.
2. I used a drill type spot weld cutter on mine word good 5/16 are the size of the spotwelds but I'm putting mine back together with 3/8 plug welds because 5/16 is a little small to plug weld. You can also use a pilot point drill bit but they tend to cut into the lower panel.
