Well, I picked up a K&N yesterday, it was like 40 bucks, but it looks good and is the best filter for my car, and with the million mile guarantee, you can't go wrong, you will eventually end up saving hundreds of dollars.
Scratchy, I was reading where K&N warns against using household cleaning products to wash the cotton filter. They say you have to use their product. I don't know if that is just to get you to buy their product or not, but it's something worth thinking about.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I can't imagine why a liquid dish soap would hurt the filter, but who am I to know?

Yeah, you should be able to use something like that instead of a special cleaner.

The previous post where the kit to do the same for 10 bucks isn't that bad I guess.

When I need something to cut grease to waqsh parts or I run out of hand cleaner, I use the bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid from under the kitchen sink. I always catch heck for it from the wife cause I either use it all or leave hand prints on it. Gives her something else to complain about besides me paying more attention to the car than her. I made it worse once when I commented that of course I pay more attention to the car, it's only 32 years old!
