so if i have a 302 4bbl, standard 3 speed and im not sure if its a 8'' or a 8.8'' but for a daily driver what would i get posi, locker, limited slip??? what kind is the best for my needs. and about how much is this gonna run me?

Also factor in several hours of shop labor, and a new set of gears in your preferred ratio would probably be a good idea as well. I'd plan on $600-800

yeah i would use a locker, use one in my truck, because the 6-53 Detroit likes to get the tires squirly in a hard pull, so it's really fun slidding around a corner in a 1978 ford F-350 with a turbo AND supercharged diesel hehehehehe=) anyways they're great for equal power to the wheels

They're also finicky, less streetable, and borderline unsafe on any car that gets driven in wet weather. Not saying they're not useful for certain vehicles, but given that the car is basically stock and seems to be something that gets driven more often, I wouldn't recommend a locker. An Auburn or TrueTrac would be much better for a street car.

You should have a 8 inch ford didn't put the 8.8 in a mustang tell around 86.Easy way to tell look at the rear end from the back the big round part in the middle if its smooth its a 8 inch the 8.8 has a removeable cover with a lot of bolts around it.

to get both tires to spin, would take $800 and a good motor. I too put a 3:25 trac loc in mine, and it's absolutely not as easy to spin those tire(s) as it used to be. Isn't that the idea? A trac loc center section, with gears, is anywhere from $600 on ebay to $1000 for auburn or currie.
