Yeah, it is an original 65 console that I got from a friend in New Orleans. I had to change the color to match my interior , but it is an original 65 console.

Are there any kits cheaper than 1100?

Is it possible to piece together the parts from wrecking yards or better to go with the kit?

Yep, If you go with the system like Soaring has, It's about $850.00. Vintage Air's "perfect fit" kit is about $950.00. If you just want A/C and don't care about "factory" looks it even gets cheaper.

For about $500.00 you could pick up a complete system at a wrecking yard. However, unless you have some serious skills, experience, knowledge and time, I'd stay away from that path.

Here's a couple of links to check out.
