Default Block Prep

ok ever since beginning school i haven even seen my mustang =[
but i just had time to get out the motor and leave it on a stand at work, and if all goes well i can bring my motor to my house to rebuild it

but what i need to know is what all needs to be done to the block without over doing it
i am completely unexerience since this is my first motor ive ever owned, do i need it hot tanked and be done with it? honed? decked? re sleeved? the motor started and ran fine the day i brought it home all it needed was a coil wire put on, did not even have clean the carb, and the car has been sitting for 25 years, with STRAIGHT water in the rad. when i took out the freeze plugs out came about 2 pints of corrosion dust, sleeves look ok though, so what i am asking is what do you think i will need without blowing my (very tight) budget and how much it will approx. cost

any help is appreciated

I'd suggest going to Border's Books and buying this: http://www.borders.com/online/store/...sku=1932494049

It's a great $20 book with lots of info. It describes exactly what you need to know to build your first engine. They had it in the store last time I was there looking around.

ok my dad will be helping me to rebuild the engine so i should not need this book, he has done many engines in the past but no longer takes the block to get machined, he has no trust in machine shops anymore after they messed up his vette block, he wants to rebuild mine without doing anythign with a machine shop, i dont think this is wise any input?

also i some price quotes would be appreciated, i would call the machine shop but i dont wanna sound like i dont know what im talking about tand get a higher price not knowing any better they charged me 130 to turn a flywheel......

well if you want a budget rebuild then go for it, but if you want a true rebuilt engine then new pistons along with an overbore are must
