Default Does this setup sound ok?

I've been wanting to do a V8 swap + some, but havent had the budget until now.

Here is what I already have:

- Front and Rear Disks
- 9" 3.55 31 spline Lg bearing
- I6 Factory stock
- Factory C4
- Global West Coil Over Suspension

What I would like:

- T and L engines 347-A2 Stroker motor http://www.tandlengines.com/ford_sb_347_A_2.html
- Holly 650 HO carb
- Pertronix Flame-Thrower Coil
- Pertronix Distributor
- Aluminum Water Pump
- Centerforce II Pressure Plate and Clutch Disc
- 100 Amp Single wire Alternator
- Dynomax Longtube Headers
- Flowmaster Super 40's
- World Class T5

I have the means, should I go for it? Also, if I'm missing anything PLEASE don't hesitate to pitch in.

Crate engines are a good deal if you get them from a reputable source.
Ive never seen any bad feed back from those guys.
The way I had my 347 built came about my calling the vendors and working with them 1st. Afr and comp cams helped me out and give me great advice and they even talked to each other to help me out.

Ill make it short I had the heads and paxton and stroker kit and cam all matched to work together. My engine guy machined and put the stroker kit in for me.

Time it was done I could have just gotten a short block stroker from coast high for about the same price. And it would have been a faster turn around. I have heard you cant build a comparable engine for what you can by a crate. I think my next ill just go with a 408 from someone and see how it stacks up.

Things you may want to consider are IMHO.
Better cooling alu. radiator.
If you ever wanted to add NOS later I would go forged pistons now.
Fuel system youll need a good hipo fuel pump I have the Aeromotive electric a1000 and hate how noisy that thing is. A good mech should work with your setup.
A good ignition system I have MSD but they are several other good ones to chose from if the engine doesnt have enough fuel or spark it will never hit the hp numbers its capable of.
Traction bars Cal tracks or traction masters.
Lots of other lil things will pop up just have fun and dont get frustrated ive been building on mine for a few years now. When I have cash I dont have the time then when I have time i dont have the cash.

Hiya.

good point about the traction (caltracs). you'll need that
the pertronix distri and coil (the high voltage) should be fine. i don't see a reason why not.

The only point of concern I see is the T5.
with 430HP/TQ you'll blow this thing to smithereens. they're capable of 300 footpounds max. maybe 350 modified with different gearing.
As far as I know the Tremecs name their transmissions to rating (ie TKO500 capable of 500ft-lbs and TKO600 does 600). so you'll need one of them I believe

maybe someone has more information on that. I only know the T5s as I have one myself

edit: just saw you're currently running a C4. check moderndrivelines.com for conversion and boxes etc ...

just a heads up, im undergoing a c4 to tremec 5 spd conversion and it got alot more pricey then i had thought. with the clutch linkage, crossmember, bellhousing, pedals and other bits n pieces. i maybe spent around 500-600 alone on parts, not including the price of the tranns

your gonna want a nice alum radiator, to compliment that new monster of an engine

with that stroker look into a "G"force t5 instead

Ok well had to make a difficult decision, but in the long run I think it'll be better for me. I'm going to downsize to 302 ci, (i figure i can always expand ), plus i figure that since I've always wanted to build up an engine myself it'd be a good experience, slowly but surely. I'm plenty happy with a 302 with 300HP so thats nothing I'm worried about. That also means I can run a T-5, got one all lined up for $500 local. I have a stock C4 thats been put through some abuse so it's all coming together.

O also anyone know cooling inlet/outlet (RH or LH?) info for a 302? Thnx

aye ... that's the way to go!

it's the only sane decision unless you want to spend big big bucks

a 302 with a nice top end (cam/head/intake) should produce figures like 300HP if the engine is running strong as well as ignition.
you can do the stroker somewhen in the future.

Don't forget to put in a good firewall stabilizer and a billet shifter when you are setting up the clutch system. Firewall flex and dragging clutches kill a lot of transmissions that otherwise would live with power and abuse. Let me know if you have questions or need to order anything up. AP

I just saw this thread. If it is not too late, here is some feedback from the GT40s forum and there is similar from the ffcobra forum with a lot of testimonials. I guess let the buyer beware!
