It was low, how do you raise the oil pressure?

how does it sound when you fire it up? you should have atleast like 30 at idle IMO depending on engine of course. but for a v8, anything lower would scare me

the min rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1000 rpm, race motor with tighter tolerance usually run 5psi per 1000rpm

when they rebuilt the engine did they do any head work?

Did you replace it with an agressive cam?

If you did put an aggressive cam in it and did not work the heades than the valve train is the issue. If you over revved it with stock heads it will cause valve problems. Did you install new valve springs and retainers?

well now the engine constantly makes a sound that is coming from under the cylinder heads, but before it sounded like the idle was set too low.

heads are rpm heads with crane cams push rods, 1.6 roller rockers, and I would think edelbrock's heads have good springs.
