Default Trunk Weatherstrip

Put weatherstrip on trunk lid - trunk won't even come close to closing. Removed weatherstrip and want to try again. I see in the Ford Master Parts Catalog that the weatherstrip goes on the lid, not the body. Why can't it go on the body instead?

it goes on the lid. itll take some time to get it to become malleable. easily force it closed and let it sit for a couple days. itll get softer

On my 1970 Coupe it was mounted to the underside of the lid and not the body aswell,Maybe it is to keep foriegn materials from building up on the trunk lip?

OK. Why does it have to go on the lid? Just because that's the way it originally was installed, or is there some other reason? I notice all my newer cars have it installed on the body. Just wondering. Thanks.

Just put it on the lid and don't be difficult lol. Ford had tons of designers and engineers paid alot of money making the Mustang.

Make sure you have the correct rubber. It changed quite a lot from year to year.
