Should I add back up lights?
The rear valence does not have the spaces for them. I will most likely not be going with antique plates either. Will these be necessary to inspection? Or does the "didn't have them from the factory" rule apply?
Back-up lights were indeed an option in 1965, and most people got them, it was, like, an additional $12.
You have a rare rear valance without the light holes. You should consider selling the part to someone who is restoring a concours car. The rear valance is routinely hit, so there's not many good ones around, certainly fewer with no backup light holes.
Another alternative would be to rig a very small light in the license plate area so you can see when you back up, and not mess with the factory valance.
My car is modded to death, but I kept all the original factory parts. Please don't drill holes in your rare factory valance. Get another one. It's worth the re-paint.
Also, since it was original equipment, you shouldn't need lights to pass inspection if they were not needed in '65. Same reason you don't need a third brake light or shoulder belts like you do in modern cars.
