Cool rareness....

I'm keeping it, plus i was not thinking of add lights to it. When they look into my eyes and see nothing but the black pits of hell they will no to stop and let me back out.

And I will park sooo far from other cars that it wont matter anyways.

No state can require you to have safety equipment on your car that it didn't come with from the factory. It was an option in '65, so you're perfectly legal without them. Personally, I'd leave it as is.

Carlos's idea about a small, bright light around the license plate isn't a bad idea, though. My reverse lights on my '67 aren't functioning right now and I hate not being able to see while I'm backing up.

what happens when the car is at an age where it didnt have reverse lights? Im pretty sure there are exceptions to the rule. Kind of like "buckle up its the law" is only enforced in most states starting with cars in the late 60s.

Parents neighbor has a 55 & 56 chevy and legally does not even have to have seat belts in the car and its still 100% street legal.

At that even if the car has seat belts in it you are not required to wear them unless its a certain year or newer. Again typically mid to late 60s.

IL is '65 and newer vehicles IA is vehicles manufacture prior to '66 for cars and '72 for trucks

I am in North Houston and purchased the Stang in about March. One thing I negotiated into the deal was the PO getting the car inspected.

Mine passed inspection which was strange to me since:

One headlight didn't work
One tail light didn't work
The reverse lights didn't work
and the Horn didn't work.

I have had several tell me that with the old classics if they can roll in under their own power they can roll out with a sticker.

I have fixed the headlight and tail light. Have been working on the horn and have a little bit more to go but at least now I have all the parts to fix the car.

Haven't even gotten around to looking at the reverse lights yet.

Been working on these issues knowing that with my luck I better get it all fixed prior to April when it will be inspection time again.

My guess is they would be required only if the car came with them but I would check state law. I know in Texas that is the seat belt law....you are only required to wear a belt if there is one in the car and you are only required to have them if it came with the factory mounts for a belt, i.e. no belt out of the factory means no belt required.

You have to check your state and city laws they are different everywhere. And yes backing up in the pitch black with no reverse lights is fun.My city stats for a car to be road legal is working lights which covers head lights tail lights flashers turn signals reverse lights a horn windshield wipers doesn't say anything about a windshield tho.The seat belt law here is 81 and newer you have to wear one. Also learn and remember the laws you need to some cops are ticket happy.
