Title Transfer and Registration question.

Default Title Transfer and Registration question.

So im taking my title to the DMV tomorrow because I just bought the car, when i take the title over im not getting it registered because im not driving it till summer, should i just wait with the title(are they going to make me register it) or can i just transfer the title.

transfer the title and get a certificate of non-op (non-operation). I believe this waives you from needing to register the car.

I did it with mine, just get the title changed. No plates no whatever.

+1 on that, without that certificate it could make registering the car a real hassle because the DMV will want to charge you fines/penalties for late registration. That and insurance may not let you insure the vehicle.

Also depending on what state you live in you will need something showing its non-op . IL requires proof of valid insurance to title a vehicle.
